Employee story: Sanna Suokas – Grading Specialist in commissioning projects

Journey to Finnos

Sanna Suokas recently joined Finnos as a Grading Specialist in commissioning projects only a few weeks ago, but she has already gained a good feel for her new role. Her interest in Finnos, however, did not arise overnight – the company had been on her radar already during her studies.

“I had already taken note of Finnos during my studies as an interesting company. When I saw an open position for a Grading Specialist, I applied right away.”

Before joining Finnos, Sanna worked at Versowood as a grader and trainee in production management. This gave her valuable experience of sawmill operations – a solid foundation for her new role.

“This position allows me to use my previous work experience in training and customer work. I’ve always enjoyed guiding others, and now I get to support customers as they adopt new equipment.”

First impressions

Sanna’s first day at Finnos was spent assembling machines and learning the systems. She works in the Mikkeli office as part of a three-person team, which she had already met before her official start.

“It was nice to begin with familiar faces – asking for help felt easy. The welcome at Finnos has been warm from the very start, and I’ve especially appreciated all the messages from colleagues across the company.”

The open atmosphere and approachable colleagues have made her feel at home quickly.

Training and learning

The onboarding period has been both intensive and rewarding. Sanna has already taken part in several commissioning projects, which have given her a clear view of how large-scale projects unfold at customer sites.

“Commissioning projects have definitely been the most interesting so far – that’s where you learn the most about the equipment and get to meet customers in person.”

She’s also been busy getting familiar with different programs and systems, and she joins practical tasks whenever possible.

Team and work community

According to Sanna, the work atmosphere at Finnos is open and supportive:

“It feels like you can ask anyone for help, and you get in touch with others quickly.”

Even though the work is technical and new things need to be learned constantly, there’s always support available.

Looking ahead

Sanna is excited about the months to come. A new project involving the Board Scanner is about to begin, and she’ll be part of it right from the start.

“It’s great to follow a project from the very beginning. And while I enjoy all kinds of learning, I’d especially like to develop my programming skills – I think that would be very useful for commissioning projects.”

She also highlights the importance of her role in strengthening Finnos’ customer promise:

“Finnos wants to make customers smile and competitors sweat. I want to be the professional who makes it easy for customers to work with us – and who leaves both sides smiling when the project is done.”

A fun fact about Sanna

Sanna always carries a notebook for work-related notes. Every job she’s had has its own dedicated notebook – and by now, she has quite a collection. She may have ditched her paper calendar, but handwriting remains her favorite way to keep track of things.
